August Brew: Alt-ered States

Baltibrew will meet on Sunday, 8/29 to brew some all-grain Dusseldorf Altbier with the intention of entering the resultant ale in the Wootown Barley Legal German styles competition.

Brew takes place here, and we'll mash in at 10 a.m. sharp. Weather should be sunny and in the upper 80s, and we'll be brewing/grilling on the side yard. Club will provide Brats, BYOT (bring yr. own tofu).

Bring food and beer or other drinks to share. We'll taste examples of the Saison brewed in June at John's house, and should be done around 5 p.m.

If you have Frolf (Disc Golf) gear, bring that too.

July Meeting “Minutes”

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it last thursday night for our monthly meeting at muggsy's.  We had a good turnout, productive discussion, and even more productive "taste testing".  Below I have a re-cap of what was discussed for those who couldn't make it (or for those who were the more enthusiastic test testers):

  • Muggsy's has offered us the upstairs of their fine bar to host our meetings the first thursday of every month.  So the plan is to meet once a month for discussion/planning/hanging out, and once every other month to brew.  This will also make scheduling the meetings easier.  So mark it on your calendar for the first thursday of every month (starting in september).
  • Speaking of calendars...i've set one up in google.  You can subscribe to it on the baltibrew website.  This is meant to be a place to list all baltibrew activities along with any other maryand beer activities that people might be interested in.  Email any events you want on the calendar to baltibrew@gmail.com.
  • We plan on setting up a paypal account so we can more easily contribute money towards brewing activities.
  • We will be sponsoring and be a major organizer of the 2nd Chili-Brew competition, which will be a featured Baltimore Beer Week Event.  This is a chili and beer competition judged by your peers, and will be a great way for Baltibrew to show face during the 2nd annual baltimore beer week.  More details to come on date/time/etc.
  • We also plan on printing up more business cards and hopefully some shirts that can be worn during baltimore beer week.  stay tuned.
  • Our August brew will be either august 28th or 29th (sat/sun).
  • The style of beer we will brew will be either an altbier, weissbier, or weisenbach.

I think that about covers it.  Hope everyone's summer is going well and hope to see you for the german brew at the end of august.

July Meeting — 7/29, 7:30 @ Muggsy’s Mughouse

It's that time of the month: meeting time. Thursday, July 29th at 7:30pm.  On the agenda: taste one of the Saisons we brewed in June, talk shop, plan August brew, "sample" various other beers.  This will more than likely devolve into getting tipsy and talking really loud, but we gotta have goals...right?

Anyway, the cool thing about this meeting is that Muggsy's in Federal Hill has been nice enough to allow us to have our meetings in the upstairs of their fine bar.  They have a great beer selection and some pretty impressive food for how small of a place it is.  There is also a rumor we might get our very own specials that night.  Should be a great time.  hope to see everyone.

What: Baltibrew July Meeting/Drink fest
When: July 29th (next thurs)
Where: Muggsy's

Note:  Muggsy's has told us that we are more than welcome to bring our own homebrew to drink/taste while we're there, so bring anything you want to share!

Agenda after the jump…

Reminder: Brewing THIS Sunday.

Baltibrew will be brewing this sunday, June 27th at club member John's house (address below).  we will be doing 3 batches of Belgian Saison using 3 methods: extract, patial-mash, and all-grain.

April's IPA brew has been bottled and it will be available to drink/bring home during the brew.

Everyone's encouraged to bring their own personal homebrew and/or various Saison's to share/taste with the group.  Along with beer, food is always welcome, and recommended.  John also wanted me to remind everyone he has a pool so be sure to bring your swim trunks, sunscreen, and towel.

We will start mashing at 9AM and will probably wrap up by 4/5PM.  A lot of us will be there for the whole time, but if you can only stop by for a bit that's perfectly fine too.  If you could email me with your plans so we have a headcount that would be great.  See you sunday!
