We had a great meeting a couple weeks ago and if you couldn't make it, check out what we talked about:

  • November Brew - It was decided our november brew, which would be our competition brew for the holiday guild party, will be a spiced doppelweizen since our club theme is Griswold Christmas and wanted to go for a egg-nog ish beer.
  • Guild Christmas Party - December 4th (tickets about sold out) at the Heavy Seas Brewery.  The overall theme is German and our club theme is Griswold Family Christmas.  We have to make some appetizers (jello mold/turkey jerky, etc.) to go along with our theme and help set up decorations as well.  Some possible volunteers were: Greg, John, Ian, and Matt.  Also of note to significant others is that there is more than beer available at the party.
  • December Meeting - December 9th @ muggsy's.  The idea is for this to be more of a holiday celebration where we can bring some friends/wives/gf's/bf's and have some drinks, listen to some christmas tunes, etc.  Open to ideas.
  • BJCP Classes - The BJCP classes are about to start in February and we get 2 spots for our club.  People that were interested in doing this were: John, Shawn, and Josh.
  • January Brew - We will be holding a poll to decide our January brew style, suggested so far are: Imperial Stout, Eisbock, Double IPA, Nut Brown Ale.  Please add in the comments any more additions.
  • Chilibrew II Wrap-up - Ian informed us that ChiliBrew II was a huge success with about 200 people showing up to help the causes and enjoy homebrew and great homemade chili.  We helped raise $1,400 for Velocipede and Baltimore Free School.  Thanks to everyone who helped, and a HUGE thanks to Ian for putting it together and offering up ass his beer when everyone else ran out.  We are looking at April or May for possible dates for ChiliBrew III so stay tuned.

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it last thursday night for our monthly meeting at muggsy's.  We had a good turnout, productive discussion, and even more productive "taste testing".  Below I have a re-cap of what was discussed for those who couldn't make it (or for those who were the more enthusiastic test testers):

  • Muggsy's has offered us the upstairs of their fine bar to host our meetings the first thursday of every month.  So the plan is to meet once a month for discussion/planning/hanging out, and once every other month to brew.  This will also make scheduling the meetings easier.  So mark it on your calendar for the first thursday of every month (starting in september).
  • Speaking of calendars...i've set one up in google.  You can subscribe to it on the baltibrew website.  This is meant to be a place to list all baltibrew activities along with any other maryand beer activities that people might be interested in.  Email any events you want on the calendar to baltibrew@gmail.com.
  • We plan on setting up a paypal account so we can more easily contribute money towards brewing activities.
  • We will be sponsoring and be a major organizer of the 2nd Chili-Brew competition, which will be a featured Baltimore Beer Week Event.  This is a chili and beer competition judged by your peers, and will be a great way for Baltibrew to show face during the 2nd annual baltimore beer week.  More details to come on date/time/etc.
  • We also plan on printing up more business cards and hopefully some shirts that can be worn during baltimore beer week.  stay tuned.
  • Our August brew will be either august 28th or 29th (sat/sun).
  • The style of beer we will brew will be either an altbier, weissbier, or weisenbach.

I think that about covers it.  Hope everyone's summer is going well and hope to see you for the german brew at the end of august.
