Ch-ch-ch-changes. Baltibrew's February monthly meeting moves to a new venue and new date: Dionysus Restaurant and Lounge at 8 East Preston Street in Mount Vernon/Station North tomorrow at our usual 8 p.m. start time.

Not quite sure which floor we'll be meeting on, but look/ask someone, and I'm sure you'll find us without much difficulty.

As usual, feel free to bring homebrew. The treasurer will be collecting dues, so come prepared for that if you need to pay up (and we all pretty much need to pay up).

Basic agenda so far is:

  • Baltibrew's presence at Max's 2012 Belgian Beer Fest.
  • January Guild Meeting report.
  • January Brew Day Recap/Kevin's departure.
  • March Brew day. When? What? (Matt McCann has agreed to host.)
  • Chilibrew V. April 22nd @ Baltimore Free Farm.

Hey Baltibrewers, and happy new year.

We're meeting tonight at Alewife. Usual 8 p.m. start time.

Items on the agenda include:

  • Officer elections
  • February meeting
  • January brew
  • Upcoming events/comps
  • Chilibrew V kickoff and subcommittee selection

Hope to see you all there.

Pics coming soon, but just so you know, we won the Guild Holiday Party Club Hour Competition, and our club name takes its place on the "door prize." The cohesiveness of our Nightmare Before Christmas theme beat out our fierce competition.

We did a great job this year, and let's do our best to keep it up for next year.

Tomorrow, 10 am at Josh Rosen's house just Northeast of Patterson Park.

This is a good opportunity to learn how to keg if you don't already know how to do so.

Happy pre-Thanksgiving, Baltibrewers!

Lots to discuss:

  1. This Saturday (11/26) we're returning to Josh Rosen's house to keg our Guild Holiday Party beer. This is also a great time to finalize menu for our club hour and get things planned and sorted before we have to make the push to prep for the party.
  2. This Sunday (11/27) a fellow club on the Eastern Shore (OCMHB) is holding their East vs. West competition in Berlin, MD. They still need judges and stewards, have about 67 entries, and will be putting up BJCP certified judges at a hotel for free. Details on their competition site.
  3. A week from this Thursday (12/1) we will be meeting at Greg Slack's house to prepare for Saturday's Guild Holiday Party. More details on that to come.
  4. And last but not least by any means, Guild Holiday Party is on Saturday Dec. 3rd. You already know if you're going, because tickets are sold out!

Hope you're having a great run-up to the holidays, and hope you get to drink some great beers with your Thanksgiving meal.

jingle beersGuild Holiday Party Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9a.m. DO NOT sleep on buying them, as this ALWAYS sells out fast. More details about the charities involved can be found on the guild site linked in the last sentence. We really want to have a heavy presence at this event. Baltibrew is the fastest growing club in the state, the youngest on average, and — we think — the most diverse. Let's show the rest of the clubs what we're all about.

Minutes from last Thursday's meeting are after the jump. As noted at the meeting, please read these here. They're posted to the website specifically so we don't have to re-hash all aspects of old business from the previous meeting. This saves us time, and gets us down to the ACTUAL business at hand of drinking, sharing, and discussing homebrew.

In addition to the link to minutes, if you won't take my word for how fun the Guild Holiday Party is, I've included a more thorough description.

Quick reminder that we'll be meeting on 11-3; 8p.m. at Alewife. That's tomorrow.

In addition to this Thursday's meeting, we have been invited to Wootown's annual Mead mazing at the home of Lloyd and Ruth-Ann Snyder. This is a bit of a hike up to White Hall, MD, but it's always a good time and an interesting opportunity to interact with another club, see how they brew, see how they conduct business, and also to take home some mead. Cost for a fermenter is usually around $30, so bring cash or your checkbook. I'll try to give a specific amount before the date.

Agenda after the jump.

Seems appropriate that we'll be brewing a Nightmare Before Christmas ale on the day before Halloween. The current iteration of the recipe is fairly interesting — without giving too much away, think off-kilter Xmas cookies.

We're only brewing 10 gallons, so there will not be any available for club purchase. If you have your own rig, feel free to do your own brew.

Brew day starts early as usual, bring food, beer to share, chairs, etc. We're meeting at Josh's place to get started at 9 in the a.m. Check the phone list if you need to get a hold of Josh by phone.

We have a tie, so now we'll have another vote.

We brew on the 30th at Josh Rosen's house, so we'll need to have this locked up tight by Friday in order to formulate a recipe, and pick up ingredients.

Which theme should we run with for the Guild Holiday Party?

  • Nightmare Before Xmas (63%, 12 Votes)
  • Haight Ashbury (37%, 7 Votes)

Total Voters: 19
