We will be meeting tomorrow @ dionysus @ 8PM. bring your homebrew to sample/discuss. also reminder that Rob Kasper (the man who wrote the book on baltimore beer) is supposed to be joining us to sell his book/discuss it briefly before we get into official business.
Jason was on the scene again taking pictures during the great (albeit a bit chilly) group brew with the Wootown members up at the Snyder Apiary. We brewed mead, a braggot (all-grain), as well as a modified Sierra Nevada Celebration clone (extract w/ grain additions).
Thought people might wanna see some of the great pics from chilibrew VI taken by baltibrew member Jason Heinen. Thanks Jason.
UPDATE: here are some more pics from Sandy over at www.beerinbaltimore.blogspot.com (starting at the church picture)
Hey Baltibrewers! Tomorrow, 10 am, at Snyder's Apiaries in White Hall, Maryland we'll be taking part in Wootown's annual mead mazing.
Bring a covered side dish, and beer or some other libation to share. If you'd like to take home must, bring cash and a clean fermenter and airlock. Honey is $3.50 per pound. Wootown will have a variety of wine yeasts available for purchase, but you can pitch any yeast you happen to have as well.
For the uninitiated, this is always a cool event. It's a beautiful location out in the country, and it's a great chance to mingle with one of our compatriot clubs. Weather is forecast to be cool, and partly cloudy so dress accordingly.
Some of us will be collectively brewing an un-hopped braggot — a beer/mead hybrid. Feel free to bring your own equipment if you want to brew yourselves, but remember that a 10 am start makes for a late finish. Extract may be preferable to all-grain.
It's almost that time. If you're competing you should have received an email with details on the event, what you need to bring, etc.
If you're just attending, the event starts at 7 p.m. at 2640 Space. You can find more details on the Chilibrew page, but remember that we're also invited to join the after party taking place at Union Craft Brewing — one of our gracious sponsors — in conjunction with Baltimore Bike Party. There are more details on the after party at the BBP site, but the general gist is that $10 gets you a cup to drink Union beers for the whole party.
Hope to see you there to taste some amazing locally brewed beers, and some excellent homemade chili.
This past friday baltibrew sponsored a non-hop gruit ale competition at Liam Flynn's Ale House as part of Baltimore Beer Week. There was a great turnout, and 11 entries from both homebrewers and professionals went head to head in what was truly a unique baltimore beer week event. There was a great turnout and we want to thank everyone who came and supported the event, especially the judges: Liam Flynn, Les White, and Bruce Williams (from Scotland's Williams Brothers Brewing Co.)
Congratulations to the winners (below), and we can't wait to see everyone next year (or this friday at CHILIBREW VI):
CELEBRITY JUDGING (Bruce Williams, Liam Flynn, Les White)
1ST PLACE: Dave Starsonek
2ND PLACE: The Brewer's Art
3RD PLACE: Ian McDonald
POPULAR VOTE (41 ballots submtted!)
1ST PLACE: Ian McDonald
2ND PLACE: Joel Gallihue
3RD PLACE: Tiger Killhour
It's the busiest brew month of the year. We get that, and we know that next week is going to destroy most of the remaining livers we collectively possess.
BUT! it's also still regular meeting time for Baltibrew at Dionysus at 8 p.m. tomorrow night and we have a lot of stuff to get worked out. We'll be meeting on the second floor again this month. While there's work to be done, we'll have a ton of homebrew to taste as well.
Agenda:
Bikemore, Baltimore's bicycle advocacy organization is sponsoring the Homebrew Bike Tour on October 12th, as an event to raise money to support their continued activities.
Specific details can be found on Facebook, and tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite, but the gist is that you pay $20, and you get to sample home brewed beers at five stops on a pre-designed, secret route that you'll travel by bicycle.
Baltibrewer Ryan Boddy and Ladybrew's Laura Cohen have created some of the beers to be served. Come out and get a ride in, sample some homebrew, and support a good cause.
We're brewing two different beers today at member Ian McDonald's house which is at 312 E. Belvedere Avenue.
These beers are in preparation for our Guild Holiday Party theme. Expect chocolate and caramel.
Hope to see you there.
