That's right, Baltibrewers, and Baltibrew fans — Baltimore Beer Week begins today, and we wanted to give everyone out there a heads up on what we believe are the best events over the next ten days. Gird your livers, prepare your excuses for late arrivals at your jobs (Couldn't they have waited just one more week to end the furlough? Debt ceiling be damned!), and start taking your vitamins now, 'cause it's ON!

True to the nature of Baltibrew, we're gonna' stick primarily to events within Baltimore City that are accessible via public transit (It's good for the city, and good for you — and you can't get a DUI if you're taking transit like a responsible citizen) with a few excursions to choice events in the surrounding counties. The events are listed as close to being in chronological order as possible, with a few exceptions. Have a great time, be safe, and celebrate beer!

Friday, October 18th: 

• Chilibrew VII — Sure the opening tap isn't until tomorrow, but this is the HOMEBREW OPENING TAP! Baltibrew presents our seventh celebration of the DIY spirit with a homebrew contest and chili cook off. Advance tickets are sold out, and competitor slots are full, BUT a limited number of tickets are still available at the door. September 2013 Minutes

First things first:

Baltibrew was honored today by the Baltimore City Paper in its annual Best of Baltimore issue, listed as "Best Homebrew Club." This is a true accolade, and we thank our members for making all of this possible, and the City Paper staff for this award.

We would also like to congratulate our gracious hosts at Nepenthe Homebrew for their being listed as "Best Gift to Zymurgists." Thanks for your support!

September Meeting Agenda

It's a big month for Baltibrew, and our September Regular Meeting is chock full of important action items, but also a great ed topic

1. Chilibrew status reports, and event reminder
2. September Brewday (9/28 at Nepenthe) specifics (remember, finished beers will be club kegs for meetings, etc.)
3. Beer week meeting change (will meet 4th Thursday instead of 3rd in order to take advantage of chilibrew publicity, and beer week buzz to increase attendance.)
4. Guild Meeting recap
5. No September social meeting; plan October social for collective beer week event.
6. Ed Topic: Pliny The Elder Clone taste comparisons.

Baltibrew will hold its August regular meeting at Nepenthe Homebrew at 8 p.m.

As usual, bring a chair, and homebrew to share.

On the agenda for the meeting:

• September brew (to be held at Nepenthe, extract batch, review of basics)
• Group brew subcommittee proposal, and if approved, request for volunteers (plenty of time to get organized since first brew they'd run would be in January)

Baltibrew will be brewing collectively one weekend day in July at the home of members Joe Mader.

Please vote for up to 3 days that work for you. Winner will be announced in one week (7/8). Please suggest styles in the comments.

Baltibrewers are taking part in Bikemore's Homebrew Bike Tour event again this Saturday after Big Brew concludes. There are still tickets left. Buy them up, and join us for some great homebrew, and a nice ride around North Baltimore.
