Hey Baltibrewers, don't forget that we're also sponsoring the 2013 Gruit Ale, No Hop Comp at Liam's this Saturday. Co-sponsored with Liam's and Nepenthe. Comp starts at 7 p.m. and it's absolutely free to drink these herbal elixirs. Good idea to get there early, as we're expecting to reach capacity.
If you're looking for interesting, or you like weird, this should be your big stop.
Download the flier, and get yourself an entry form.
Thought people might wanna see some of the great pics from chilibrew VI taken by baltibrew member Jason Heinen. Thanks Jason.
UPDATE: here are some more pics from Sandy over at www.beerinbaltimore.blogspot.com (starting at the church picture)
It's almost that time. If you're competing you should have received an email with details on the event, what you need to bring, etc.
If you're just attending, the event starts at 7 p.m. at 2640 Space. You can find more details on the Chilibrew page, but remember that we're also invited to join the after party taking place at Union Craft Brewing — one of our gracious sponsors — in conjunction with Baltimore Bike Party. There are more details on the after party at the BBP site, but the general gist is that $10 gets you a cup to drink Union beers for the whole party.
Hope to see you there to taste some amazing locally brewed beers, and some excellent homemade chili.
This past friday baltibrew sponsored a non-hop gruit ale competition at Liam Flynn's Ale House as part of Baltimore Beer Week. There was a great turnout, and 11 entries from both homebrewers and professionals went head to head in what was truly a unique baltimore beer week event. There was a great turnout and we want to thank everyone who came and supported the event, especially the judges: Liam Flynn, Les White, and Bruce Williams (from Scotland's Williams Brothers Brewing Co.)
Congratulations to the winners (below), and we can't wait to see everyone next year (or this friday at CHILIBREW VI):
CELEBRITY JUDGING (Bruce Williams, Liam Flynn, Les White)
1ST PLACE: Dave Starsonek
2ND PLACE: The Brewer's Art
3RD PLACE: Ian McDonald
POPULAR VOTE (41 ballots submtted!)

That is all.
GO NOW AND BEER BE WITH YOU.
Hey Baltibrewers - originally the competition was to be held on Saturday, April 23 until they realized that the date was the day before Easter. That being said, it was moved to Saturday, April 30.
The point of contact is Dwayne at the brewpub @ 410-313-8141. You should still call and put your name in for the competition. Plus Dwayne can answer any questions you have about drop off, etc.
Good luck!
Jester
Our February brew — a clone of Oliver Ales 3 Lions strong brown ale — came off pretty well. So well that we swept the top spots in CRABS/Oliver Ales Clone Wars Comp; with Kevin Berry's winning closed ferment all-grain version, and Greg Slack's second place closed ferment extract version.
Kevin wins a gift certificate to Pratt St. Ale House, a sixtel of 3 Lions Ale, a brew day with Steve Jones — head brewer at Oliver Ales, and last but not least, the awesome tap handle trophy in the picture!
Greg won a growler of 3 Lions, and a gift certificate to Pratt St. Ale House.
This is a big achievement for Baltibrew. It's also proof that extract brews can compete head-to-head with all-grain brews. Greg started brewing about a year ago, hosted our first big extract brew at his house, and has progressed from a relative newbie to having a three keg system, and moving up to all-grain brewing after our workday this Sunday. This is a great success for Greg, and a great success for the club and its mission of helping people with an interest in beer become great brewers.
Let's keep up the good work, Baltibrewers!
