Last week, despite the epic rain, a lot of us were able to get together to have a productive meeting and taste some members great homebrew. Attached are the minutes, which I promise is a quick read.
Lastly, be sure to add in the comments of this post your ideas for our club theme for this years guild xmas party. Be sure to not only include the theme, but also what food/drink/costumes/deocorations would work with said theme. We had some great ideas thursday and want to pick one sooner than later since our september club brew will be beer for the party.
Prost!

I love the Willy Wonka Xmas idea! (I believe the credit for that one goes to Jon’s wife Lauren).
The food would be fun (chocolate fountain, lots of candy) and the decorations would be cool. The hard part would be getting people to dress up as Oompa Loompas.
The beer doesn’t all need to be candy flavored… you can always name any beer to match the theme (like a Veruca Salt Gose, Wonka Wit, or Oompa Loompa Lager).
I agree, this idea seemed well received at the meeting, too. And yes, credit is due to my wife, Lauren. Food would be dessert centric but not exclusively (Jester mentioned hiding a “golden ticket” among plated food…good one), and same goes for the beer, as per Kevin’s suggestion above. There are also many costume ideas outside of oopma loompas, though it would be great to have a small crew of six or eight to run around the event! I think it’s important to note that the main focus of inspiration should be the 1971 classic version as opposed to the 2005 remake.
Other ideas proposed: peanuts/charlie brown, smurfs, and pirates vs ninjas. While these do have potential, my vote is for Willy Wonka.
Wonka.

Sure, you could always have somebody’s wife dress up like a spoiled little brat and whine a lot. Just sayin’….
I don’t have any ideas for the party but I can help out with Chilibrew.
I had the idea about Charlie Brown Christmas. Pretty easy costumes and beer choice- brown ale, but we could spice it up with spruce or something crazy. But really how boring is that compared to Willy? I think the chocolate factory would be awesome!
Upvote on Wonka. Gene Wilder sucks.
Vote for Wonka – Wilder version over Depp (sorry Mike P.)
Beer ideas sound fine however I would add that whatever way we go, remember holiday, spiced, etc. Wonka Wit with ginger?? NOT heavy on the ginger!!! Oompa Loompa dark lager?!?!? Chocolate covered raisin rye?? Oh, hell yeah I’m having fun making up recipes. Just remember the time frame – needs to be brewed in September….
